Hi everyone! I hope you are doing well. I just realized it's been years since I have updated this blog. It is now July 2023, so I am updating this post. I have created a lot more art since my last post and I am traveling down many artistic paths. For now, this blog will remain and be an archive of a chapter of my creative life.

I loved having a blog when I first started, the world and life has changed. I might resurrect it at some point, that remains to be seen. Also, if you would like to be added to my newsletter just let me know at julieengelhardt.com I will be sending out a very infrequent newsletter as another way to stay in touch. I would like to hear about your adventures too.

I loved painting this baby dragon. There was a time when I felt guilty to do things that I loved. There was a time I believed self care was selfish. But one day I realized that the world does not need one more miserable person. I realized that if I allowed myself to do things that made me happy then I would be adding happiness to the field of life.

I realized that the only way this world will be a happy world is if it is filled with happy people. It sounds so simple but I see many people who never do one nice thing for themselves. So if you are someone who never does anything that you love, today I am giving you permission! Go do something you love.

About nine years ago I was feeling homesick and sad. I sat outside in the hot August sun and out of nowhere a scruffy dog appeared. He was skinny and covered with fleas but he was filled with the brightest spirit I've ever seen. I looked for his owner but never found one, he was obviously homeless. My home became his home, and he filled my home and heart with so much sweetness and love. He gave me so much more than I could ever give him. I was so grateful that he shared his life with me. And just as suddenly as he appeared that hot August day he disappeared from my life just as suddenly. November 2018 was when he left this life and moved into his new life. I will forever miss Oliver and he will always be in my heart. Oliver inspired this painting.

The Messenger

 

Two days in a row

I sat in the sun

the sun

would soon be ice

a dragonfly circled

landed on my shoulder

I knew

she carried

letters

books

epics

she needed to give me

but I forgot her language

the first day she was crimson

the second day, emerald

she couldn’t disguise herself

I could recognize her anywhere

the third day she circled

landed on my shoulder

I was startled on day three

she left

and still hasn’t returned
